Call for applications

UNESCO and British Council Iraq are pleased to invite cultural and creative entrepreneurs from Baghdad, Basra, Mosul and Sulaymaniyah to apply for a new professional development opportunity under the Iraq Creative Futures programme. Deadline for applications: 3 November 2025

About the programme

In 2022, the British Council conducted Iraq’s first creative economy mapping, which highlighted the urgent need for infrastructure and support for creative industries, particularly in skills development. In response, the Creative Enterprise Bootcamp was piloted in 2024, supporting 10 entrepreneurs through training and mentoring, with 4 receiving seed funding.

Building on this foundation, the 2025 edition, Iraq Creative Futures, extends the creative enterprise training to 20 cultural and creative entrepreneurs to build their capacity through essential creative business skills training and seed funding. The project aims to help increase the participants’ entrepreneurial confidence and investment readiness in order to sustain and scale up their enterprises, and this can provide an economic boost to the local communities and create more jobs in the creative and cultural sector.

Participants will attend a 5-day bootcamp, participate in a group mentoring phase, and later apply for seed funding to support the development of their creative enterprise or venture.

Objectives

  • To enhance the business, leadership, and project development skills of early-to-mid-career creative professionals, to be able to develop sustainable creative enterprises/interventions that have cultural and social value and can secure financial investment.
