On 18 July 2024, the Government of Iraq’s Ministry of Education and the British Council signed an Agreement of Collaboration to enhance English education in Iraq. Signed by Ben Lawton, British Council Country Director, and Mr. Raed Sahi Mahal, Deputy Minister of Education, this partnership aims to elevate teaching standards, revamp curricula, and improve pedagogical approaches.
Building on the success of our 2022 Teaching for Success programme, which provided CPD to over 240 teachers, this agreement will expand these efforts nationwide. The British Council remains committed to supporting English language teaching in Iraq through expert-led initiatives.
